You can report the problem online or call our contact centre on 04 570 6666. It’s helpful if you can give us specific details about the location of the light, and if the outage is just one light, or several in a wide row or area.
All outages need to be reported to Council. Once we receive your request, we'll send the fault to the correct team for investigation and repair.
The street lights marked in the map have already been reported as outages. Click on the diamonds for more information.
If it’s one street light then it’s likely to be a problem with the bulb, fitting or pole. Hutt City Council contractors fix these.
More than one street light
If it’s more than one light in a row or a wide area that’s not working, then it’s likely to be a circuit fault. We'll send your request to Wellington Electricity to investigate and repair.
The standard time for fixing an outage is 10 working days. Simple replacements can be completed within 24 hours of an outage being reported. Outages that require a network fix, traffic management or underground work will take longer to fix.

LED street lights are being installed across Lower Hutt to replace outdated streetlight technology. They use less electricity, are easier to maintain, and provide a light source which is easier to direct towards areas where it is needed.
