Bin Enquiry FormHutt City Council Electoral Officer Bruce Hodgins says that people who are passionate about their community and want to help shape the future of Lower Hutt should consider standing.
“We’re looking for passionate people who represent the vibrancy and diversity of our city. If you or someone you know wants to play a part in shaping Lower Hutt’s future, consider standing for a position.”
For the first time since Hutt City Council was formed in 1989, the city will have a mixed representation model this election. This means that residents will elect a Mayor, a ward Councillor for their area and six “at large” Councillors. Residents in Petone, Wainuiomata and Eastbourne will also vote to elect members to their local Community Board.
An information evening for those wanting to stand for Hutt City Council and its Community Boards will be given in the Hutt City Council Chambers at 5.30pm on Tuesday 23 July 2019.
The presentation will assist those who have decided to stand in the election to better understand the nomination process and the various legislative requirements in running the election.
“It’s an opportunity for candidates to ask questions and get a better understanding of some of the complexities of the election process. Any candidate regardless of whether they have stood before or not would benefit from attending the presentation,” said Mr Hodgins.
Nominations close at 12 noon Friday 16 August 2019 and the voting period will take place from 20 September to noon on 12 October.
For more information about standing for election contact Bruce Hodgins, Electoral Officer, on 04 570 6839 or visit the 2019 elections web page.
Also from today, the preliminary electoral roll is open for inspection at all Hutt City Libraries and the Council Administration Building on Laings Road. Electors are able to check that their details are recorded correctly and make changes with the Electoral Commission before the roll is finalised on 16 August.
Nominations are also open for the Hutt Valley District Health Board, Mana Charitable Trust and the Greater Wellington Regional Council.
