Bin Enquiry FormAt Hutt City Council we’re always looking for ways to minimise the impacts of climate change, reduce harmful emissions and protect our environment.
We recently upgraded the hazardous waste drop-off centre at Silverstream Transfer Station.
Hazardous waste is the term for any substance that is detrimental to public health or the environment. It includes motor oil, batteries, paints and solvents, cleaning products, pesticides and other chemicals, and compressed gas tanks, like propane and oxygen.
These products cannot be disposed of by common means, like other by-products of our everyday lives and require special treatment.
To better manage that, we’ve made improvements to the way hazardous waste is collated, separated and stored, and new signage that supports this. There will also be an increase in the number of staff available at the site to help manage the collected material and to direct users to the correct drop-off locations.
Access to the Silverstream hazardous substances drop-off site at Reynolds Bach Drive, Stokes Valley, is free for anyone disposing of household hazardous waste. The usual charges will apply to all other landfill uses.
