The Build & Play trailer gives children opportunities for free, creative (and occasionally risky) play.
The trailer is full of tools and materials they can use like saws, hammers, hand drills, timber and recycled items. Each school receives a risk assessment, training, and recommendations on running the programme for the best results. Local educators are telling us that this resource offers a great opportunity for authentic learning and engaged students.
Build & Play is proudly sponsored by Cummings Kilgariff & Co who see their involvement in this programme as a great way to support positive play and learning by tamariki.
The newest sports facility in Lower Hutt is the Ricoh Sports Centre, nestled in the heart of Taita and home to Fraser Park Sportsville. The sports facility is home to softball, football, squash, rugby and hockey and features an indoor multi-use turf, a café and two bars. It's also currently the home of the Phoenix development squad.

Ara Mai! Te Whiti Riser Night Walk is the largest active event in the Hutt Valley, with a total of 3,592 participants walking up the Te Whiti Riser track over two nights.
It’s a fantastic night out with families connecting with nature and taking care of their wellbeing. In 2019 the event raised $4,432 for White Ribbon NZ, our partner charity.
We are grateful for the support of House of Travel Lower Hutt to deliver this quality event free to our community. The team at House of Travel Lower Hutt has been working with us on community events for over three years now as they see a direct benefit in aligning their business to our community. Our partnerships team works with their marketing team to bring this combined vision to life.
"The Ara Mai! Te Whiti Riser Night Walk was a fun opportunity for our travel consultants to engage with and give back to our local community, with the bonus of being out in our beautiful native bush. House of Travel Lower Hutt have partnered with the Hutt City Council for two years now on two fantastic activations, the team at HCC worked closely with us on each, they carefully thought about how best to incorporate our team, and helped us meet our objectives with a great amount of brand exposure along the way. Promotion of each event was well planned and social media engagement was impressive! We look forward to working with the Lizzie and Sam into 2020!" - Marie Yaxley, Retail Marketing Manager, House of Travel
This programme was created to meet the needs of 6 special Lower Hutt tamariki who wouldn’t otherwise get an opportunity to learn water confidence and lifesaving skills.
WSP and Buildmaster have joined forces to support the Huia Special Swimming Programme.

As a council we can do a lot for our community, but by partnering with businesses we can do more.
