Our community hubs combine sports facilities with libraries and community centres. Combining these key services into hubs helps us maintain relevant and multi-purpose facilities for the whole community to use.
Our hubs intend to:
Developing community hubs is one of the core elements of the Long Term Integrated Community Facilities Plan (PDF 3.34MB). The plan outlines a 30 year development process to revitalise our community facilities across the city, and was adopted by Council in 2013.
The Naenae Community Hub project took a short pause while we looked into the bigger picture for community facilities in Naenae, following the pool closure.
We’re working with the community to develop a spatial plan that will guide the development of further facilities in the town centre. This also includes how Council can deliver the same benefits of a hub, in a way that fits the community.
The Walter Nash Centre is a sports venue, a leisure and learning space and a hub for the local community.
The Koraunui Stokes Valley Community Hub showcases multiple facilities under one roof including the Library, Toy Library, Plunket and multipurpose spaces available to hire.
The Wainuiomata Community Hub is set of buildings providing access to the Library, NuiFM radio station, multipurpose spaces for hire and outdoor recreation, and offices for community agencies including Kokiri Marae, Wainuiomata Marae, Wainuiomata Maori Wardens, Wainuiomata Toy Library, Love Wainuiomata and Youth Inspire.
