If you're responding to needs that have been impacted as a result of COVID-19, we encourage you to apply for funding.

About community funding

Our vision is for our city and all our people to thrive.

Community funding supports organisations and initiatives that enable and strengthen our communities and improve wellbeing - especially where it is needed most. Wellbeing is when our people are able to lead fulfilling lives with purpose, balance, and meaning. This includes social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing.

Who are we looking to work with?

We're keen to work with organisations and initiatives who work closely with communities and harness volunteer power. This includes those who:

enable people and communities, and
have an equity focus - where it’s needed most.

Funding rules

Successful applicants must:

use funds only for the approved purpose and in accordance with any terms and conditions we've set
use funds within 10 months of receiving approval
let us know at once if any difficulty or potential difficulty arises that may compromise the service or project
lay a complaint with Police if any funds are stolen or misappropriated, and then notify us
allow an audit on the use of the funds if we decide to undertake one
recognise our support in all publicity material, annual reports and similar publications

Built Heritage Incentive Fund

This fund helps owners preserve, restore and protect the heritage values of their buildings or structures.

Community Arts and Culture Fund

We help non-profit groups deliver arts programmes and cultural services to the community.

Community Engagement Fund

This fund is for local activities and events that directly benefit the communities concerned.

Community Resilience Fund

This fund provides financial support for organisations, groups and initiatives in Lower Hutt who are delivering services that support resilience, or sport and recreation programmes that support community wellbeing.

Creative Communities Scheme Fund

The Creative Communities Scheme (CCS) fund supports local groups and people wanting to start a project with an arts or cultural focus.

Events Support Fund

Events help make our city a great place to live, work and play. This fund supports and encourages the hosting of local events.

Mayoral Grants & Donations

The Mayor’s Office holds a small budget which can be used to help support Lower Hutt residents either with charity events or participation in national and international competitions where they are representing Te Awa Kairangi and Aotearoa.
