The Petone Wharf was built in 1883 by the Gear Meat Company, initially used to load and unload ships coming and going from the Gear Meat Works. We acquired the wharf and it’s now used for recreational purposes and occasionally for ferry transport.
The beach is groomed over the summer period and is safe for swimming in most places. There’s no patrol in place, though, so please watch your children!
A swimming raft is anchored off Oriental Street from Labour Weekend until Easter.
The Lions Park playground is popular with children of all ages, as is the Lions Park Model Railway, which operates on Sundays between 1pm and 4pm in clear weather.
You can access the Petone Foreshore from either end of the Petone Esplanade.
