2024 opening date
McKenzie Baths will reopen for the summer season on 16 November 2024.
Since 1933 the historic McKenzie Summer Baths has served the people of Petone.
The Baths are located only a short walk from the eastern end of Jackson Street Petone and opposite the Petone Recreation Ground. All baths are heated and there's plenty of space for picnics.

Our pools and facilities
Main Pool
Our main pool is 25m long with a built in access ramp. It's designed for squad swimming, lane swimming, aquajogging, liquid fitness classes, school swimming programmes, recreational play swimming and aquatic sports.
Aqua walking/jogging and Lane Swimming
There's room for adults to practice aquajogging and lane swimming in the main pool during these hours:
- Monday to Friday 12noon - closing in the school term
- Saturdays and Sundays 11am - 6pm; please note space can get limited in the weekends
In the school holidays you can lane swim from 11am right through until closing time. These hours can be subject to change.
Splash Zone
Introducing our brand new programmed activity for kids and teenagers!
Splash zone comprises of the Aquarun, Sealed Inflatables and Aqua toys. It is available on weekends and school holidays from 12noon - 3.30pm. All children under the age of 8 will need to wear a yellow band.
Learners Pool
This space is designed for children under 10 years or children who are non-swimmers. It is also used for Learn to swim lessons, school swimming programmes and recreational play swimming. We also have a toddler’s play area.
Splash Pad
Let the kids go wild with interactive water play in our Splash Pad.
Birthday Parties and Holiday Programmes
Having your child’s birthday party or school holiday programme at the pool is a great way to celebrate and it's becoming an increasingly popular activity.
We need you to book in advance if you're planning a large party or holiday activity - this helps us offer an equal and fair service to all groups, including the general public, and helps us to keep your group safe on the day.
After hours hire on Friday and Saturday nights
Whether it's for a birthday party, corporate or social function or a fundraiser, what's better than some fun in the water?
Our pool can be hired on Friday or Saturday nights after 6pm. Access to pool toys and the hydroslide is included in the hire rate. The Aquarun is also available for hire. We'll provide trained lifeguards to ensure your group is kept safe. Under 8's rule applies for these hires as well.
