Bin Enquiry FormYou need to start your building work within 12 months of receiving your building consent, or your consent will lapse. If you later decide you still want to do the work, you will need to apply for a new consent.
Council as a BCA must make a decision whether to issue the Code Compliance Certificate within two years of the consent being granted.
If you think you'll need more time to complete the building work you'll need to apply for an extension. Make sure you do this before the 12 month timeframe is up.
To apply for an extension fill out the Building consent time extension application form (PDF 533 kb).
Half an hour of processing time and admin will be charged to the building consent.
We have the discretion to grant an extension of time after we review the building consent file. The decision will depend on whether there have been any changes to the Building Code.
If you have not applied for a Code Compliance Certificate within two years of the consent being granted, we have to decide if we will issue a Code Compliance Certificate.
Please get in touch with us - we can talk through the reasons and give you advice on applying for an extension.
