The key features of the shared path are:
Te Hikoi Ararewa will form part of a wider strategic network with future linkages to the Beltway Cycleway and the CBD planned.
Hutt City has a great natural environment and an abundance of opportunities for walking and cycling.
A transport system that requires people to be active is hugely beneficial to our city, as well as to the health and wellbeing of our community. Benefits include thriving business areas, reduced congestion and vehicle operating costs, greater safety, resilient infrastructure and a better environment.
Te Hikoi Ararewa provides:
Pukeatua bridge was opened in 2015. The bridge connects walking and cycling tracks that run along Lower Hutt's eastern hills, stopping people from crossing the road in 80kmh traffic.
Construction on stage one began in January 2018 and was completed in December 2018.
Work on stage two began in July 2018 and took eleven months, with completion and opening of stage two in June 2019.
