Bin Enquiry FormThroughout 2018, Hutt City Council has been working on its Ecology and Landscapes Project. The purpose of the Project is to identify and protect:
The Project is needed to ensure that the Council meets it’s legal obligations under:
Initially, the Council intended to identify and protect these areas through a change to the District Plan that would be complemented by non-regulatory assistance to land owners.
However, at its 29 November 2018 meeting, the Council decided not to proceed with a change to the District Plan.

The resolution from this meeting was for the Council to proceed with a non-regulatory approach for the identification and protection of significant areas.
At its 11 December 2018 meeting, Council resolved additionally as follows:
That Council:
(i) | requests officers to report back on an action plan to implement Council’s resolutions of 29 November 2018 to protect biodiversity and including any consequential changes to the District Plan; and |
(ii) | requests that the report shall specify any additional resources and funding required so that corresponding provisions can be considered for Council’s draft Annual Plan for 2019/2020. |
Over the coming months, the Council will continue to work on the Ecology and Landscapes Project in accordance with the direction from these resolutions.
