Below is a summary of what the Residential Survey is about:
Work on turning Hutt City's vision of revitalising and growing the city into reality is underway. We're now seeing results with a rise in population after years of stalled growth, an increase in businesses setting up in the city and a significant rise in residential building consents.
For this vision to be realised and to ensure there is sufficient attractive and affordable housing in our city, we need to consider new ways of planning and designing our urban areas.
The challenges ahead are limited greenfield land for new housing developments and a narrow choice of properties for people in different situations such as singles, those starting a family or parents whose children have left home or those facing retirement.
Hutt City Council has been looking at ways to allow more people to live close to some of the city’s shopping and transport centres, which have good access to public transport, shopping facilities, parks and schools.
There are a number of examples of poorly planned residential developments around the country that have not benefitted residents or contributed to the character of the community. Council proposes a thoughtful and managed approach to residential development.
A key objective is to ensure there is a wide range of lifestyle options available from tiny houses through to apartment living.
This survey is to gauge residents’ opinions of Council’s ideas.
