Parking contributes to safe and efficient access to destinations and activities and helps make our city a great place to live, work, and play, for residents and visitors. Parking is part of Lower Hutt’s transport systems and our focus is on more effectively managing our city’s parking resources rather than creating more supply. We are also improving public transport in the city and cycling and walking links.
Planning our use of parking is also important to shaping Lower Hutt for the future. Both the approach to transport planning and people’s expectations in relation to transport and the infrastructure that supports it are changing. Factors such as:

Using pricing or time restrictions where required will ensure that parking is available and enables access to employment, shopping and leisure activities.
