Bin Enquiry FormCouncil is required to review and consult on the way residents are represented at least once every six years under the Local Electoral Act 2001.
The draft proposal was agreed on at the end of July, with formal consultation on the draft proposal taking place in August. The representation proposal has to be decided by 8 September 2018 at the latest.
Residents are encouraged to have their say on issues such as: how Councillors are elected, the number of Councillors, if the city should continue to have second tier representation (community boards and panels).
Council established a subcommittee to consider community feedback on possible representation options. Two workshops have also been held involving community board members, panel members and Councillors.
An initial survey was undertaken in April 2018 to gauge the community's views on Council Representation. This involved Citizen's Panel members and the wider public.

We then held a second survey on options for the draft proposal. The options proposed included: maintaining the status quo for Council representation, Council elected by a mix of ward and at large (by whole city) or Council elected at large.
